What are “Shift Places”?
Every Shift Place serves as a showcase of low-carbon living, as well as a test-bed for new ideas for achieving the goal of 2-tonne emissions per capita. Improving energy efficiency through insulation and low-power appliances; switching to clean energy sources; overhauling transport modes; optimising waste management; procuring locally sourced seasonal food and climate-friendly leisure options – Shift 2050 looks at all aspects of greenhouse gas emissions in and around places and applies technological and process-based reduction measures. In each Shift Place, businesses, the public sector and the community work together to develop a wide range of emission-cutting lifestyle changes and technologies. Thanks to Shift Speedup!, Shift Places are put on the “fast track” to reach 2050 emission levels.
